The idea of A State of Nude did not come from nudity, and does not necessarily refer to nudity in a traditional sense. Instead, nude means being stripped of prejudice and fakeness — a way of saying: “Take me as I am!”

A state of nude is the exact definition of who I really am, without any masks, captured in day-by-day life, with related states: melancholy, sadness, joy, sensuality, and above all...honesty! Primarily, honesty with myself, in front of the camera, and secondy, with the viewers.

The photos are meant to evoke a feeling in viewers — the photos should stir emotions. I am “naked” in front of the camera as I have laid my naked soul for them to see, and the aim is to remain true to myself.

The project started as a great way to start rediscovering myself through my own eyes. I also I wanted to capture my inner self, that little something that makes us all unique. That is why I also started to photograph others as well and include them in A State of Nude. Real life is not at all like magazines want to make us believe. All those glamour photos do not represent at all how women truly are — and they don’t do us any justice! The point is to be natural and human. Those small imperfections make us who we are, so they should not be photoshopped. Instead, let the inner self speak. Nobody is perfect so why not be ourselves instead of trying to reach a level of perfection that will never exist? —sd
