Thoughts by Engin Guneysu

All the protests started because of the government’s decision to construct a historical building in Gezi Park, which is located in the very center of Istanbul — Taksim Square. Most of the crowd consisted of leftwing supporters, but there were more than 800 different groups (different backgrounds, different ideologies, different religions) as well. Resistance for Gezi Park is one of the most popular, well-known, social and deepest revolts in the world. Today, there are still huge numbers of people in Gezi Park trying to resist and protect their democratic rights.

Unfortunately on June 11th, 2013, all the protesters in Taksim Square and Gezi Park indirectly faced a major police intervention. My photographs capture the battle of Turkish people instead of the hurtful face of resistance.
