My muse is mexico - I spent a month traveling the country and falling more and more in love with it. The journey ended in the small jungle town of Tulum, just an hour south of Cancun on the Carribean Coast. White sand beaches with crystal clear waters surrounded with lush vegitation. Footsteps from ancient Mayan Ruins, magical might be the only word that can properly describe the calm of Tulum.

Small properties line the coast of Tulum, with spa and yoga amenities. La Zebra has become the hip hotel to venture to with thematic evenings that include salsa dancing. The Be Tulum offers one of the most respected spas. This is definitely the area where you’d want to stay but other, more reasonably priced options are located only a bike ride away in Tulum Pueblo.

5 things to do While in tulum If all you want to do is lay on the beach with a cocktail and a book, I don’t blame you! For those who want to explore, try these:

1. The Tulum Ruins are not to be missed! A bike ride from Tulum, you can walk through the ruins and even take a dip in the attached beach.

2. Cenotes - there are a number of these fresh water caves with underwater rivers conecting them. Go snorkeling with turtles in these healing waters and for the experienced diver, travel the maze of rivers. 3. Xcaret is a colorful theme park with snorkeling and family attractions 4. Xel-ha is essentially a natural aquarium regarded as a natural wonder where you can spend the day swimming with beautiful fish. 5. Day trip to Playa del Carmen or Isla Mujeres. Both are on the way back to Cancun and allow you to explore more of the Riviera Maya.
