One of my favorite characteristics in any artist is the ability to be brutally honest and willing to sacrifice public persona in exchange for relatable lyrics that aren’t meant to follow the status quo.

The first time I listened to Stay High by Tove Lo, I thought it was an emotionally charged, heartfelt song about a love-gone-lost. Further listening of the lyrics explains; she’s made it through sex clubs before focusing her attention on toxins that keep her body numb and her mind distracted - a feeling I can more honestly relate to. Her live show in San Francisco proved constant control of the crowd and a strong desire to get “I can get a little drunk... But on good days I am charming as fuck” tattooed on my body. -me
