1980 India

I recently decided TO revisit some photographs from a trip to India that I took back in 1980. I was given a camera by my father to document the experience, and it was my 1st time using a camera. There was much adventure…from coming upon a snake charmer by the side of the road, and traveling to a village to see how the local people lived, to beholding the Taj Mahal in bright sunlight with it’s gleaming white marble.

But, the look of these photos did not match the feel of my memory of the trip. So, rather than scan them, I decided to recapture and reframe them via Oggl with the Ray Mark II lens and the Blanko 1 film. While I prefer to use Hipstamatic Classic to shoot due to it’s more organic and unpredictable nature, Oggl allowed me to see exactly what I was getting with regard to framing which was better suited for this purpose.

The Hipstamatic app allowed me to transform my normal looking original photos to something evocative that more closely resembles the memories I have in my head of the trip. It was a rewarding experience to revisit the 1st photos I ever took, and reinterpret them today with my preferred camera, the camera I carry with me everywhere I go.
