Odd Ice Cream

for Oddfellows’ innovative chef and its adventurious customers, nothing is off limits

The light coming in at 5pm in chef Sam Mason’s Williamsburg ice cream shop perfectly illuminates his unique frozen creations: chorizo caramel swirl, tobacco leaf-smoked chili huckleberry, buttermilk biscuit, miso butterscotch cherry, PB&J with toast, and whatever else he happened to come up with, including a foie gras ice cream that you have to specifically inquire about. “Those who know Sam know that there is usually a savory component to all of his desserts and people love that about him,” said oddfellows co-owner Mohan Kumar. “The meat flavors have been very popular and when we don’t have one on the menu, we get tons of questions as to when they will return.” He added that some customers come in for the chorizo ice cream three times a week — that’s a savory-and-sweet habit we can get behind. Big time. —Linnea Covington
