Young Empires

Page 57 of Snap No. 12

We’re crazy for these Canadian rockers whose music sounds like the soundtrack to summer love, endless parties, and a kickass life

I first fell in love with Young Empires a year ago. They played a super small show where they blew the venue’s speakers three times. I barely remember that part — and no, it wasn’t too many vodka sodas — all I remember is the electric feeling of their music.

Flash forward a year later: They’re playing bigger venues, and with Matt on vocals, Jacob on guitar and Taylor on drums, they haven’t lost any spark when performing songs from their recently US-released EP, “Wake All My Youth.”

The band is working on their full length album, which Matt says will have a positive vibe like their EP, but is lyrically more complex. The band has done some “growing up” since they penned the original songs 3 years ago, and from what we heard live, it definitely won’t disappoint. Catch them on tour this summer, and rumor has it they’ll be back on the road in the fall.—MS
