“...what the Roca brothers have created is a restaurant I would travel ten thousand miles to eat in.”

Some food images are so good you can taste them. Kirsten Alana takes us into the chef’s table of one of the world’s most brilliant molecular gastronomy episodes.

Like a small planet unto itself, El Celler de Can Roca’s gravity is artfully controlled by the multi-talented Roca brothers: Joan, Jordi and Josep. It’s hard to believe after you’ve enjoyed a meal at their famed restaurant, that it can exist so successfully in a place that’s a little bit out of the way. It’s the second best restaurant in the world which one might be forgiven for thinking belongs more in NYC or Paris, than Girona. No matter, what the Roca brothers have created is a restaurant I would travel ten thousand miles to eat in. As it is, I traveled from my home in New York to Girona to enjoy their Chef’s Table and tasting menu; and after five hours and 17 courses that left me doe-eyed and mildly in pain [from pure joy] I think it’s safe to say, it’s good El Celler de Can Roca isn’t closer to home. I’d go broke from eating there too often and likely, need a personal trainer I can’t afford! — Kirsten Alana
