Lounging by the pool in silence is one of summer’s cardinal sins; supplement that sunbathing with some steamy jams. Hook up the Sonos, grab your strawberry daiquiri, and try these tunes to get the (pool) party started.

Antibalas, “sare kon kon” I picture this Afrobeat tune blasting out of a Brooklyn apartment window, saxophone riffs hanging in the summer air and cute old couples dancing on the sidewalk. Make it happen, people. (Then send me the photo.)

Haim, “forever” No offense to Whoopi Goldberg, but Haim is my new favorite sister act. The LA trio has a Fleetwood Mac-meets-Michael Jackson thing going on, and a badass fashion sense to boot. If I’m being perfectly honest, I’m not sure if I want to listen to them or if I want to be them.

Dent may, “best friend” Dent May’s new album Do Things is a shimmery, summery disco wonderland, and ‘Best Friend’ has me California dreamin’. It’s rollerskating in Santa Monica, it’s 70’s-style short shorts, it’s Baywatch. It’s a party.

Young Empires, “Against the Wall”

Young Empires specializes in tropical electro beats with funky kick—it’s the musical form of your favorite jalapeño-spiced margarita.

St. Lucia, “before the dive” No doubt about it, St. Lucia’s “Before the Dive” will get you pumped for a cannonball. With bright synths and an infectious chorus, it practically sounds neon.
