Israel, Land of Contradiction

Page 90 of Scene No. 2Page 91 of Scene No. 2

Alon_goldsmith A mix of old and new that’s jaw-dropping and heart stopping. Sensory overload a constant threat. Ancient walls sharing sacred spaces with signs hawking cell phones. Black clad zealots dodging hipsters on electric bicycles sporting trendy beards and floppy hats. Mouthwatering odors of spice infused street food juxtaposed with the acrid stench of rotting garbage. The plaintive cries of muezzins summoning worshippers to prayer layered with the desperate cries of a thousand feral cats. Ancient bricks and plastic bags. Azure waters and desert sands. A land calling from way back in time to a future fueled by conflict and compromise. The way forward unclear but revealing itself moment by moment in an unstoppable flow of hope and regret. A photographer’s dream.
