They create environments – social ecosystems that change the lay of the land, attracting enigmatic people and other creatures. Bridges set up a dynamic that is both transitory and permanent. With their ups and downs, they transform the space they take up, creating areas of opportunity, vista points, walls ripe for creativity, and dormitories for the homeless. By definition, a bridge provides an escape. By intention, it becomes a refuge – its dark caves populated BY the invisible who perform dark endeavors in the underbelly of the black and white.
