We’re obsessed with this artist’s style. here she breaks down her inspiration and approach to photography.

Photography is a means of expression for me. The way I look at images completely changed a couple of years ago when I saw the work of a Brazilian photographer named Geraldo de Barros for the first time. He was heavily influenced by Gestalt theory which investigates our perception of incomplete forms in reference to the whole. I have tried a new visual language ever since.

The act of photographing is a succession of choices of the photographer, from the intention to the selection and construction of the image. When making choices the photographer interferes conceptually in the image and this creative impulse is more emphasized in the subjective photography. In this context the abstract photography goes beyond what you see to try to find out what you feel. It is not necessarily pleasing to the eye but through experimentation new visuality comes up.—Beatriz Sene
