Pawa Tube Invitational

This was the first Pawa tube Invitational, held at Pascuales, in the tiny state of colima in Mexico. It was Mexico’s first tube invitational format event, and included 30 surfers pascuales is for experienced surfers. It’s a legendary monster of a river mouth beach break, with barreling tubes breaking from both left and right, sometimes reaching heights of 10 meters. It only runs in perfect barreling conditions, and requires a long holding period, making it really unique.

Attending this one-of-a-kind event were Nathan Hedge from Australia, Gabriel Villaran from Peru, Kalani Chapman from Hawaii, Artiz Aramburu from Spain, Brian Conley and Rusty Long from California, among many others, and Portuguese talent Nic Von Rupp became the champion of the first-ever Pawa Tube Fest.

There were sunny days, and cloudy days with wind, but pro surfers and locals loved the tournament and afternoons at the beach. Now everyone is expecting a better one next year. See you at Pascuales in 2014! —Millo Salgado
