Throw Off the Bowlines

Page 2 of Snap No. 10

From the Editor

“Throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the tradewinds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.”

-mark Twain

The impact that traveling has had on how I view the world, and consequently myself, is immeasurable. Away from the routines, safety nets and luxuries of daily life (and yes, if you’re reading this on an iPhone or iPad, you’re living luxe compared to most), traveling thrusts you into the unknown, and reveals the beauty that is this crazy, awesome planet.

Sure, traveling comes with its unavoidable series of misadventures—missed planes, stolen purses, and lost luggage to name a personal few. But, when I reminisce about the destinations I’ve explored, I completely forget those annoying hiccups along the way. It’s the epic sunsets and sunrises viewed along unfamiliar skylines, the intoxicating smells of new cuisines, and the obligatory flirting with foreigners that I remember most.

And when we return from our travels, we have photos. Photos to remind us that we were there, that we were feeling, that we were living. Photos to help us relive the stories all over again. This entire issue is dedicated to all the destinations that our community has dared to go. From biking across the Alps to road tripping across Europe to sailing the coasts of Mexico, we’re highlighting it all, and then booking tickets to live out some new adventures of our own. I hope you flip through these pages and plot and plan for your next journey. To sail away from the safe harbors of your home, to catch the tradewinds, and explore, dream, and discover...
