The Taste of a Brazilian Love Affair

Page 59 of Snap No. 10Page 60 of Snap No. 10

We worked with bartender Khalil Muhsin to create a signature drink just for our destination issue. And what better destination to quench your thirst than Brazil—home of sun-kissed women, beautiful beaches, and the 2014 World Cup.

He approached the most commonly known cocktail in Brazil; the caipirinha and gave it a twist with fresh and seasonal ingredients, reminiscent of pre-prohibition era cocktails. Traditionally the cocktail is made from Cachaca, a Brazilian rum, and unrefined cane sugar muddled with limes.

3/4 oz lime juice 1oz rhubarb simple syrup 2-3 fresh pitted cherries 2 medium basil leaves 2 oz Cachaca (preferably Leblon or 51)

Toss cherries, basil leaves, lime juice, and rhubarb syrup in a shaker and muddle until diluted. Add Cachaca. Add ice. Shake until ice breaks. Fine strain into frosted martini glass. Garnish with a fresh cherry and basil leaf. And, make sure to clap the basil leaf between your hands to release the flavor before dropping in glass!

Rum & Coconut

Transport yourself to the Caribbean without the flight.

Sometimes all it takes is a coconut to convince your mind that you’ve escaped to an exotic island. For those weekends when travel is impossible and the local park is your only layout location, this drink is easy and delicious. If traveling with a machete is not an option, take a visit to Dolores Park in San Francisco’s Mission district and tell the coconut guy Snap sent you!

What you’ll need

-A coconut -A lil’ Captain Morgan -A machete (seriously)

Directions: Whack to crack and add

some rum. Voila!
