Modern photography takes center stage at the The Fox Talbot Museum in the UK thanks to Hipstamatic photographer Nettie Edwards

Black and white photos may not be everyone’s photographic cup of tea, but the absence of color often forces the photographer to rely on lighting and other detail subtleties to tell a story. It can also help capture the drama and emotion of a moment in a way that color simply can’t.

This themes can be seen in photographer Nettie Edwards’ work. Nettie, along with six other photographers, will have a selection of her black and white Hipstamatic photos featured at The Fox Talbot Museum’s upcoming exhibition which explores black and white photography’s relevance in the 21st century. This marks a significant step for the mobile community, as it’s the first time mobile photos will ever be included in a Fox Talbot Museum exhibit.

Roger Watson, the curator at the Fox Talbot Museum, compared black and white photography to “the little black dress” — it never goes out of style. We couldn’t agree more. —ms
