Form + Function
From the Editor
It’s all in the details. Those words were, and still remain, a common theme when we approach design. Hipstamatic, as a brand, was founded by graphic designers, and even the first hires were designers.
With Hipstamatic and Snap magazine, design is incredibly important, and helps separate us in this ever-growing world of mobile applications. We care about the details in everything we do. From our camera experience to our analog prints to the look and feel of our lenses—we are obssessed with the details.
Design, unlike (most) art, has a function—it has a purpose and should fulfill its purpose in the most beautiful way. Whether it’s to communicate a message, to enhance a person’s appearance, to transform a space or to get you around effectively, design completes a goal. It’s those ideas explored by a variety of designers that we’re highlighting in this issue of Snap.
From the designer fare at Sons & Daughters to the architectural jewelery design of Faris to Rob Forbes’ creation of PUBLIC Bikes, this issue taught us that while it’s hard to define all the elements that are catagorized as design, the common thread with designers is the love and desire to create and help our society evolve.
