“I used to make stationary as a kid—that was my idea of fun. My friends would say, ‘Can we

Play House? and I’d Say, “‘No,

We’re Rubber Stamping.’”

Leah knew she always wanted to be an artist ever since she was a kid—painting, drawing, whatever she could get her hands on to help her create. Her room became her own little studio—she even had every art supply imaginable even though most of her friends were busy playing with dolls.

However, once it was time to go to college, she thought she’d do the “right” thing and get a degree.

“I was trying to do the thing that everyone did—I went to UC Santa Barbara, just get a generic degree in sociology,” said Jachimowicz. “However, I was failing miserably in all of those courses.”

She decided to look into an art degree, which offered painting and drawing courses, but that wasn’t quite what she was looking for, either.

“But then I discovered printmaking, I took a letterpress printing introductory course and that was it—I was hooked.”

That was nearly ten years ago, and today Leah has a full-fledged printmaking business, Coffee n Cream Press, which is quickly gaining popularity for its edgy and irreverent stationary cards. And while it’s taken several years to to get her business up and going, she wouldn’t have it any other way.

“If you’re an artist, and you’re not doing your art, nothing makes sense.”
