Wedding photographer Chellise Michael gives us six quick tips on how to take amazing Hipstamatic snapshots at the next wedding you attend—trust us, the bride and groom will thank you

There are few things as intimidating as being asked to photograph a friends’ wedding: The pressures of missing a shot or not living up to the expectation can be daunting. Thanks to wedding photographer extraordinaire, Chellise Michael, you’ll now have go-to tips to keep you cool and calm before your— and your friends’—big day!

Set your Favorites Before the wedding, play around with all of the lenses, films, and flashes that Hipstamatic offers, and select the one(s) that you love the most so you’re ready to shoot.

Shoot high Set your resolution to “High Quality” on the camera settings so you can get them printed as hi-resolution photographs and surprise the couple with the thoughtful gift. You’ll be their favorite guest!

Be consistent If you plan on sharing or printing the images for the newlyweds, it will look best if all of the images have a similar editing style and feel to them.

Notice the details Don’t forget about the little things that matter! Like the detail of her headpiece, his amazing bow tie, her shoes, the cake, etc.

Keep it candid Capture emotion—like his expression as she walks down the isle, the look on Mom’s face during the father and daughter dance, or the little flower girls as they walk timidly down the isle. Candids are always the couples’ favorite, so be sneaky!

Rules of social A wedding is a very intimate event, always ask permission from the couple before tagging or posting images from their wedding day!
