Southeast Asia

The next time you’re traveling, leave your expensive camera at home. Your DSLR, along with its lenses and accessories, probably weighs about the same as most airline carry ons— plus all that gear makes you look like a walking dollar sign.

Photo Story by Colin Remas Brown if you’re like me your favorite camera is already in your front pocket—your iPhone loaded with Hipstamatic. But I don’t just shoot Hipstamatic because it’s convenient. I use Hipstamatic for three reasons: it gives me the best artistic results, I get to shoot things in a whole new way, and it’s discreet.
This summer when I traveled to Cambodia, Vietnam, and Laos I sealed my iPhone in a nearly indestructible lifeproof case that enabled me to safely shoot knee deep in a muddy rice paddy behind a water buffalo, kayaking in Halong Bay, and under waterfalls in Luang Prabang.
After my first few days experimenting in South East Asia I had decided on the Hisptamatic combos Loftus + DC and John S + Ina’s 1969 as my favorites. When I felt I was shooting a dslr cliché, like a wide view of Angkor Wat, I used the combo Salvador 84 + Ina’s 1969. When everyone asks how I got that shot I tell them— Hipstamatic!
