Let’s Talk About Sex, Baby

Good Vibrations is more than just sexy time toys, they’re on a mission to provide sex-positive education to everyone

Most of us got some form of sex education in school—but that doesn’t mean we all understood all the kinky shenanigans in 50 Shades of Grey upon first read. A good many of us learned that condoms don’t really prevent sexually transmitted diseases (wrong!), and hardly any of us learned about the clitoris in class.

I hear the call to “Speak Out” and say it’s not quite enough— since so many people don’t have enough good info to begin with. What we need is sex-positive education: information that is accurate, non-judgmental, diverse (because no two of us are exactly the same sexually—we’re little snowflakes!), and realistic about the pleasures, as well as the perils, of sexual experience. When what we hear is “just say no,” a healthy and pleasure-filled sex life is harder to achieve even as adults.

On October 26 and 27, in San Francisco, Good Vibrations will contribute to the conversation, hosting its first Sex Summit, featuring four intriguing panel discussions with brilliant keynote speakers. Thought-provoking and sex-positive perspectives guaranteed! — Carol Queen, phd
