Red All Over

Nothing says ‘retro chic’ like a red lip. Fashion blogger and makeup whiz Keiko Lynn has the perfect how-to for that crimson pout.

A scarlet smooch is a surefire way to channel your inner ‘60s sexpot, and we heartily approve of anything that inspires the term ‘’60s sexpot’. If anyone can rock the look, it’s vintage-loving fashion blogger Keiko Lynn: she has a fierce sense of style, and gave us the low-down on her own inspiration.

From your outfits to your hair to your makeup, you have fabulous personal style. Where do you draw your inspiration?

Mostly from the past. I’m really into vintage clothing, or even vintage-inspired silhouettes. Even my daily makeup, which is usually a cat eye and bold lip, is a little retro. I like to put modern twists on it, though, like using a matte, hot pink lipstick or adding a pair of tough platform boots with an otherwise girlie outfit.

What advice do you have for someone trying to develop their own style? Study those whose style you enjoy. Find what elements appeal most to you, and go from there. Don’t copy, but use it as a base from which to build your own style. Experimentation is the best way to find what works for you. Once you find the silhouettes that suit you, it all gets a lot easier.

What are you lusting after for summer? Vintage cotton dresses. The softer, the better. They save me in the warmer months, because you can look put together without having to layer or accessorize too much. — KC
