Maastricht is located in the south of The Netherlands on both sides of the river called ‘maas’ and is the capital city of the province called ‘Limburg’. The Name Maastricht is from the Latin ‘Trajectum ad Mosam’ or ‘Mosae Trajectum’ meaning ‘crossing at the Meuse’ It refers to the old bridge built by the Romans.
today, Maastricht is well-regarded as an affluent cultural center. Maastricht has 1677 national heritage sites (so called Rijksmonumenten), which is the second highest number in a Dutch town, after Amsterdam. now these days Maastricht has several bridges. Two of those bridges are only for pedestrians and cyclists. When you visit Maastricht you will notice that the main transportation methods are about walking and cycling. During this visual city tour we will walk along some of Maastricht’s most beautiful spots. Within just a few hours walking you will get a glimpse of architectural buildings like the ‘Sint Servaas Church’, the ‘Theater at the Vrijthof’ and the ‘Aldo Rossi Museum’. You will walk along beautiful places like the ‘Vrijthof’ or the modern town square called ‘Plein 1992’. Hope this small series will awaken your wanderlust.
