Action Meets Lenticular Prints
Reimaging old technology using Live Photos
For any photographer or creative above a certain age, you’ll surely remember lenticular printing. As an editorial art director, these were my favorite sample or leave-behinds from photographers.
Long before Flickr, IG and Hipstamatic, photographers would have portfolios with tear sheets from magazines, but every once in a while they would send a postcard using lenticular printing. It was like an animated GIF IRL and it was magic.

Hipstamatic is about how you shoot, not how you edit ⏵ This month we’re adding a wonderful new camera mode called Action Sampler. It is inspired by the fun Pop Art Action cameras we had in college, later popularized by the great people at Lomo.
These little cameras had four fixed lenses that would fire moments apart and capture all four frames into a single 35mm slide, just a few moments apart. It’s like the 90s version of a Live Photo, and that’s what inspired us to take this idea into Hipstamatic.

ACTION LENTICULARS ARE THE CLOSEST THING TO REELS OR TIKTOKS YOU'LL EVER SEE ON HIPSTAMATIC.

Just like walking passed a lenticular billboard in the city in 1998, scrolling through the stack feed action photos will animate frames as you move your iPhone.
These photos are captured as Live Photos but then HipstaMagically transformed into a still 4-up grid, which you can then animate at will by simply tilting your device. To take an Action Sampler you can either:
⏵ Tap & Hold the shutter, then release to quickly take an Action shot at any moment
⏵ Go to Menu ⏵ Filter Mode ⏵ Special ⏵ Action Sampler to take multiple Action shots in a row
⏵ Import any previously taken Live Photo and instantly turn it to 90s style
